In this lesson you’ll create a Scratch account. Scratch is an online community in addition to a programming tool. Creating your account is the first step.
Scratch is web-based, and you’ll need to create an account with an email address. Scratch doesn’t store any files on your computer. Instead, all of your work is stored in the Scratch web app itself. You’ll want to use an email address that you use regularly. If you’re enrolled in programs at the Digital Harbor Foundation, use your DHF youth email address. It’s often a good idea to have personal and professional logins for online tools.
Open your browser and head to the Scratch website: https://scratch.mit.edu
After you click that button, you’ll need to answer some questions about yourself. First, you’ll need to enter your username and password. This name will be visible to the Scratch community. Make sure to choose something appropriate! Select a password that you’ll remember. If you forget it, you can reset your account with your email.
After setting your username and password, you’ll need to enter your country.
Next, you’ll need to enter your birthday. Be sure to talk to your parent/guardian if you’re signing yourself up.
After entering your birthday, you’ll be asked to enter your gender. Select whatever you’re comfortable with.
After you’ve answered these questions, you’ll need to enter your email address. If you have a DHF email address you should use this. If not, choose an email address that you can access and that you use regularly. If you forget your password you’ll need to use your email address to reset it.
You’ve now created your account! Next time you want to log in to Scratch you can click the Sign in button instead of Join Scratch:
