Fusion 360:Designing with Parameters & Design Challenge

Designing with Parameters

After you’ve designed the 2x2 Lego Brick, you might be interested in designing the lego bricks of different sizes. Instead of individually designing each brick, you can use design parameters to complete this task.

What is a Parameter?

Parameters are numerical or other measurable factors forming one of a set that defines a system or sets the conditions of its operation. In Fusion 360, it is a method to set the dimensions of part or all of your model. By adjusting the parameters to the original model’s dimensions the model will scale uniformly based on those set parameters. This will only work when designing something with similar geometry or it’ll be too complex to manage.

Because lego bricks are common in shape you can use parameters with your design. Using parameters to your design, create Lego Brick in these sizes 1x1, 1x4, 2x4,2x6, and 4x8. Use the video below as a guide.

Design Challenge: Self Watering Planter

A Self-Watering Planter is a type of planter that contains a reservoir that stores water overtime feeding a plant directly at roots.

Design Prompt: Design and Print a self-watering planter.

Design Requirements:

  • You must design the planter to be printed in two parts that interlock with each other.
  • Your design must be original. You can research other designs for inspiration but ensure that your design is a one-of-a-kind.
  • You must design this using Fusion 360.
